Bev Merrill and Shelby Wright hosted the members of the Community Draft Horse and Mule Association for a weekend wagon ride
near Stamping Ground in north central Kentucky over the weekend of May 6-8, 2016. A few of the wagons that were on site Friday afternoon took about a 10 mile ride around the area
before returning to camp for one of Tina Willoughby's delicious spaghetti dinners. There were 6 wagons and about the same number of outriders on hand for the Saturday ride. We rode
for about 6 hours covering about 18 miles. Since it was so early in the season, there were plenty of stops to rest the teams and for the group to socialize. When we got back to camp,
Bev and Shelby Jean had a big dinner prepared for the group with additional dishes contributed by many in attendance. Although the weather had been pleasant and sunny through most of
the day, the sky choose to cloud up and start raining as we all sat down to eat. (This is why there are no photos of the meal.) From that point on, it continued to rain off and on
through the rest of the night and on into Sunday. Although Sunday morning was sunny, it wasn't long before the showers returned and forced the remaining riders to decide that the Sunday
ride would have to be called off.
